Staunton Ranch State Park is Colorado’s latest State Park and opened in 2013 offering 18 miles of treking trails and a variety of other leisure activities. The park rests south of Black Mountain in an area of pine woodlands, aspen groves, open meadows and granite high cliffs. The site was as soon as a 1,720-acre ranch had by Drs. Archibald and Rachel Staunton who homesteaded the land beginning in the turn of the 20th century. The household ran a cattle ranch and a turn-of-the-century saw mill on the property and organized summertime camps for children.

A few of my preferred trails are the Marmot Flow and Bugling Elk Tracks. These can be incorporated into a 3.1-mile loophole that ends at stunning Elk Falls Fish pond. It’s a fantastic mix for those aiming to experience an excellent amount of the park without going overboard on distance.
